This book is rooted in my “Jen is Zen” episodes, but it’s so much more than a collection of reflections.
At its core is the ReFRAME model - my 6-part identity transformation framework designed to guide you back to yourself.
✨ Recognize. Feel. Reflect. Articulate. Move. Embody.✨
Each section walks you through the ReFRAME journey - from naming where you are right now to living who you were truly meant to b
Whether you read it cover to cover or flip to the page that meets you where you are today, this book was made for your in-between seasons and your just-a-bit-off days.
✨ It’s a self-paced journey to clarity, intention, and self-trust.
✨ It’s a reminder that you are never too far gone, too late, too old, or too much to get clear on what’s real and right for you. Because it’s never too late to discover who you were meant to be.
Inside are 67 authentic, resonant moments - the kind you read and say, “that’s exactly how I feel.” And maybe, just maybe, the kind that help you reframe what comes next.
✨ If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or like you’ve forgotten how to put yourself back on your own list… this is for you.
‘Twas the night before move-in, and all through the house, every mom’s heart was stirring as childhood memories came flooding back…
In this tender, beautifully photographed keepsake book, moms and caregivers will find comfort, connection, and a heartfelt celebration of one of life’s biggest milestones: sending your child off to college. Told in a sweet, rhyming verse inspired by classic bedtime stories, ‘Twas the Night Before Move-In captures the magic, nostalgia, and bittersweet joy of watching your child take their next big step.
Each page pairs a lovingly crafted line of the poem with vibrant, artistic photos from real family moments, making it a perfect gift for mothers, grandmothers, or anyone preparing to send a beloved teen off on their college journey.
✨ This unique book is designed as a children’s book for moms - a cozy story to read before move-in or to treasure long after the boxes are unpacked. Whether you’re celebrating graduation, comforting yourself through the empty nest transition, or simply cherishing your child’s growing independence, ‘Twas the Night Before Move-In is a timeless reminder that while everything changes, a mother’s love endures.
Perfect for high school graduation gifts, senior year keepsakes, and every mom’s bookshelf

Dr. Jennifer Brubaker has her Ph.D in Communication Studies and is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she has taught for 18 years. Prior to UNCW, she taught at The Ohio State University, Kent State University and the University of Toledo. Originally from Ohio, Jen lives in Wilmington, NC, with her husband, three children, three dogs, cat and a menagerie of small animals. She loves spending time with her family, the beach, the mountains, traveling and all things fitness, sports and wellness. A former yoga teacher (and yoga practitioner for 25+ years!), she loves to apply a yoga and meditation practice to life’s everyday moments.
Over the last 18 years, my identity, interests and friends have been interconnected with my children’s identities, interests and friends. As they become teenagers and slowly begin to create lives of their own, I, like many women, have felt a bit lost and unfamiliar with who I am beyond the framework of motherhood.
In these podcast episodes, I blend content grounded in family communication theory to help you to communicate with and understand your teens with reflective and inspirational messages to guide you in rediscovering who you are as a woman.
